Republicans LOVE war on so many levels. It allows them to manipulate their cowardly followers into malleable compliance by pretending to protect them from the scary monsters they create; they get to strut their chicken hawk asses around in uniform as an homage to their homoerotic adoration of all-things military… AND they also get to profit from the spilt blood of the plebeian dupes sent to ensure Corporate America can keep its vice grip stranglehold around the necks of the world.
Most of the time, the profiteering comes in the standard form, such as the type practiced by Halliburton or Xe. You know, overcharging the American taxpayers to serve rotten food and poisoned water to soldiers, or paying a mercenary Army to smuggle gun silencers in dog food and murder civilians while lawlessly doing the same job soldiers could do for half the pay or less.
The lowest form of profiteering is riding to the bank the grief and of families left financially insecure by the death of their loved-ones, as well as the miseries of injured soldiers – so we’ll leave that to Fox News’ own Sean Hannity – exposed to be living the life of opulence and luxury courtesy of widows and orphans of soldiers who were murdered or maimed in George W. Bush’s (and now President Obama’s) illegal oil war.
Despite the fact that they say that 100% of the contributions go to the widows, widowers and orphans the tax returns reveal that they have spent millions on carting their well-padded, well-fed asses around like the modern-day aristocracy they think themselves to be.
She writes, “In fact, less than 20%–and in two recent years, less than 7% and 4%, respectively–of the money raised by Freedom Alliance went to these causes, while millions of dollars went to expenses, including consultants and apparently to ferry the Hannity posse of family and friends in high style.”
Rather then the scholarship funds they promise to support, the group’s fund’s pay for private jets, luxury hotel suites and luxury SUVs for Hannity and his family/entourage – not to mention the $200,000 Hannity gets to go on stage and wax mindlessly about the Republican concept of “freedom” being the liberty to have a transnational corporation ride your ass to the bank unfettered by the pesky government. Meanwhile, the widows and orphans of the dead solders and the wounded soldiers themselves receive merely the crumbs that fall from the tables.
For instance, Schlussel reports, “according to its 2006 tax returns, Freedom Alliance reported revenue of $10,822,785, but only $397,900–or a beyond-measly 3.68%–of that was given to the children of fallen troops as scholarships or as aid to severely injured soldiers.

On the other hand, 62% of the money went to “expenses… ”
Of course, many Rethugulan apologists are pooping their diapies trying to excuse this unconscionable (but to be expected) profiteering as simply a liberal smear – as if EVERYONE would ride around like a King and his Lords on money they supposedly collected for the widows and orphans of dead soldiers if only given the chance! How dare you Debbie! Hannity is only doing what is expected of any proud Capitalist! They only probably most upset they didn’t think of it first.
I would say “unbelievable” if only it were. Instead, I’ll say, “typical.”
The entire expose has to be read to be believed. I couldn’t do it any better than Schlussel did. Please check it out. For her hard work, the Charity Navigator has given Hannity’s sham charity a (overly generous,) 2 star rating.
Why so high?
Schlussel continues, “Oh, and by the way, Freedom Alliance quietly erased all references and links to Charity Navigator from its site, despite using the bogus, now-downgraded rating from the group as a defense for its waste and fraud, just weeks ago.”
Debbie Schlussel is still on the case so I’m sure there will be further updates.Click here for reuse options!
