The Choice: American Taliban or American Middle Class?

Since the late 1860′s, when the Republican Party hired themselves out to the Railroad Tycoons in order to turn our government into a mere appendage of corporate affairs, Republicans have engaged in a class war against the working people of this nation.
Having nothing legitimate to offer working people, Republicans understand quite plainly that their leverage during election season goes down as the voting populace goes up. This is common knowledge in the Republican establishment. In fact, Paul Weyrich, father of the right-wing movement and co-founder of the Heritage Foundation, Moral Majority and various other groups is on video telling his Republican co-conspirators,
“Now many of our Christians have what I call the goo-goo syndrome — good government. They want everybody to vote. I don’t want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people, they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.”
Republicans also know that whether the topic is Universal Health care or more tax giveaways for the rich, contrary to the incessant insistence on Fox News that America is a “center-right” nation, when asked plainly about specific issues, the American People clearly support a progressive agenda.
This being the case, the Republican establishment speak to the worst aspects of the human condition in order to make the people divided enough to consider their conquerors their allies.
Their candidates are those like real-estate multi-millionaire Carl Paladino, the BIGGEST landlord in Western New York who has the unmitigated NERVE to declare himself OUTSIDE the ruling class by stating,
“Tonight the ruling class knows, they’ve seen it now. They not only know it but they’ve seen it. There’s a people’s revolution.”
…and also believes it’s perfectly fine for himself, a grown adult seeking high political office, to send pornographic and racist emails just for shits and giggles.
Then there’s Rand Paul, who wants to bring us back to Jim Crowe America… and Sharron Angle, who attacks the unemployed as “spoiled”, hates “big government” while living off her husband’s Federal pension… Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, stirring up the old Republican standards of racism and fear with her totalitarian “Papers Please” law and outright lies about decapitated bodies in the desert. Of course, with the green-light from the Supreme Court allowing money to corrupt our political process without regulation, then there are the billionaire Republicans like, Meg Whitman, out there spending unprecedented amounts of their own personal fortunes to get their fingers around the neck of political power.
The Republican crazy fatigue is really wearing me down… and just when I think Republicans have hit bottom with their unapologetic racism, homophobia, greed, greed, greed, divisiveness, lies, willful ignorance and revisionist history.. a trap door opens and they sink to another level where we currently find Senate Candidate and Teabagger darling Christine O’Donnell – not letting her American Taliban extremism get in the way of her flapping gums.
The more Republicans expose their incredibly outrageous and anachronistic worldviews such as those voiced by Christine O’Donnell, rather than be repulsed, the more their base seems to embrace them. Normal people (non-Republicans), on the other hand, are again reminded of the choice they have between Conservative and Progressive America.
To Conservatives, “morality” means sticking government in our bedrooms to legislate human sexuality- something their plethora of manias won’t allow them to embrace without heavy doses of self-loathing and shame… whereas out in the streets of society, sorry pal… I got mine… you’re on your own.
Progressives, on the other hand, believe that our morality is reflected in creating a society that works for all – not just for the rich top 1% – and what goes on in our bedrooms between consenting adults (or alone) is not any of government’s business.
These are our choices. American Taliban or American Middle Class.
