…And Gets Up With Teabagging Fleas

Justine Sharrock for Alternet interviewed Naomi Wolf, author of “End of America,” about her warnings about our slide to Fascism under Bush and now Obama and her curious crossover into the world of Teabaggery.

First of all, you must read the entire article to really understand what I am talking about, so please do so here…
You will then understand why I reject outright Naomi Wolf’s thesis that we are a bunch of liberal elites looking down on a sincere crowd of patriots concerned about the Constitution!

First of all … calling it the “Tea Party and Patriot” movement is a disservice to any true “patriot” who ever fought for independence against the British Crown. Wolf conveniently omits the origin of the Tea Party but chooses rather to stick to the mythology about angry taxpayers spontaneously taking to the streets. Let’s not forget that the Tea Party is NOT a grassroots movement – it is a corporate-funded Astroturf operation spearheaded by some of the richest people in the country and calculatingly launched by Rick Santelli on CNBC.

Wolf recognizes the RNC’s desire to co-opt the useful idiots “There is a battle between people who care about liberty and the Constitution and the Republican Establishment who is trying to take ownership of it and redirect it for its own purposes,” but she fails to realize that the majority of the Teabaggers know nothing about Constitution the same way they know nothing about what is supposed to be the very core of their cause – taxes – as Forbes magazine exposed.

What Naomi Wolf fails to realize is that the Teabaggers are willfully ignorant and woefully misinformed. We all know that a busted clock is right twice a day but Wolf seems she to conflate their employ of “Obama as Hilter” signs with their understanding of reality – as if their high powered perception is motivated by a sincere desire to adhere to strict constitutionalist principles, rather than the racist dog whistle call that it actually is. Teabaggers liken President Obama to Hilter, not because they recognize the very real threat that the continuance of the Patriot Act and other totalitarian measures pose to We The People, but because people like Glenn Beck have masterfully played their ignorance and deliberately misled them to believe that a government that seeks to solve our society’s ills (and “promote the general welfare”) has something to do with Socialism… which, in turn, has something to do with Nazis… or…. Communists … or Fascists … and/or Hitler.

Its freaking ridiculous. If a normal person attempts to have a conversation about health care and their opponent counters with outright fabrications about pulling the plug on granny, then they must know that any attempt at real dialogue is futile… yet Wolf blames liberal “elitism” for not bridging the divide! As Frank Schaefer said, a village cannot reorganize village life to suit the village idiot.”
This is a community of (99%) white people, many of who are on some sort of government subsidy that gives them the FREEDOM to rail against government! More than that, they are the tragic pawns of a very successful propaganda campaign from Fox News and right wing radio.

Sorry, Ms. Wolf… I would no more want to join their Tea Party the same way I wouldn’t follow a magical rabbit down a rabbit hole. There is no “elitism” in not wanting to board a crazy train.

How dare Naomi Wolfe propagate the “liberal elite” meme again when normal people refuse to get in the mud with pigs whose whole agenda is disingenuous – as evidenced by their silence when the REAL assault on the Constitution began and notice the crickets as McCain and Leiberman propose a bill that would allow the President to snatch any America and disappear him or her indefinitely without charge or trial.

Liberals would by no means refuse to ally with true Conservatives if their agenda truly was to “save America.” I, myself, joined the National Guard after September 11th and took the oath under a picture of George W. Bush.

Unfortunately, the Teabagger crowd is motivated by the lesser aspects of human nature – racism, selfishness, division, fear… and only wants to “get their country back” from the African American their fellow citizens DULY ELECTED to reign in the very corporations the Teabaggers now loudly rally to support.

Perhaps if the Teabaggers actually READ their pocket-sized copies of the Constitution, rather than waving it around like a prop to distract from their own laughable ignorance or use as a shield from which hide behind when justifying Brown-Shirt thuggery, they would understand their motivations are false. But that is fantasy on my part.

Teabaggers are misled thugs, overt and covert racists, and terrorists, plain and simple, getting their marching orders from billionaires whose transnational corporations have no allegiance to either country or community. They sat silent when a white Republican President, allowed numerous terrorist attacks to occur, disappeared and tortured people in secret prisons, violated treaties, wiretapped us without Judicial oversight, presided over the largest redistribution of wealth to the upper class, ran up more debt than all other President’s since the time of Washington combined, lied us into a war and on and on.

Her aligning herself with the Teabaggers is more than disappointing. It’s stunning.
